Expansion of the E45 – Horsens – Drilled ground anchors

As part of the expansion of the E45 motorway, the section west of Horsens was widened by two lanes through the soft ground area around the Hansted Å.

To avoid extensive soft ground replacement close to the existing operational motorway, a sheet pile wall was installed at the future edge of carriageway.

The sheet pile wall was subsequently stabilised with drilled ground anchors, which were installed beneath the existing roadway and anchored in the constructed sand core beneath the motorway.

The ground anchors were tested in accordance with the relevant execution standards and subsequently tensioned. In total, 450 permanent strand anchors were installed over a stretch of approximately 1 km.

The design and dimensioning of the ground anchors were carried out by Nordisk Fundering’s in-house design department and approved by the client’s consultants.
