In connection with the construction of the Nordhavn Tunnel, Nordisk Fundering has installed temporary ground anchors to secure the stability of the temporary retaining walls.
The ground anchors were executed as strand anchors with lengths of up to 33 metres and were installed progressively in line with the excavation works. Up to three anchor levels were established to secure the excavation, which reached depths of up to 15 metres.
The anchors were drilled 4–8 metres into the Copenhagen limestone to achieve sufficient geotechnical load-bearing capacity. In addition, all ground anchors were tested to verify their geotechnical performance.
The ground anchors were drilled close to the harbour front and below the water table, which imposed stringent requirements on the management of water ingress, placement of cement grout and subsequent sealing.
